Alaskan Wilderness Adventures! (Kodiaks Wild Side!)
Kayak with Sea Lions! Seals! Puffins! Otter! Porpoise! Whales! & Bears! Join Alaskan Wilderness Adventures for a day of adventure! Location: Kodiak Alaska! Year Round Trips are arranged around your schedule! Dawn till Dusk if you like! Cost per person, per day, and your choice of using single or double kayaks $160 for the entire day.(2/more $120 per person!) All my double kayaks have dual steering, so you can switch back and forth between steering from front OR back... Which allows each person the luxury of being able to take turns playing with your camera, and relaxing, and enjoying the wildlife, without having to pay attention to whether you are about to drift into something.
Mayflower Beach has a series of protected islands, shielded by a mountain range peninsula. Calm water and a great place to photograph Sea Otters! Seals! Horned and Tufted Puffins! …as well as Whales! There are a series of sand bars off Chiniak as well as out in Pashagshack where we frequently photograph high concentrations of seals lounging on rocks! Puffin rookeries! Bald and Golden Eagles! Oystercatchers! Kittiwakes! We were able to photograph the progression of 2 baby Bald Eagles from egg on up, during the course of the summer last year… While stopping on islands off Mayflower Beach!
Anton Larsen is the BEST place to photograph Sea Otters asleep in the kelp!… We always have a few seals, THOUSANDS of horned and Tufted Puffins!…Arctic Turns! …AND the best chance of seeing whales a few yards form shore! I had at LEAST 17 days in August alone where we had Whales surface within a few yards of our kayaks out in the Anton Larsen area!
Paddling from White sands beach to Monks lagoon, we were able to watch a pod of over 75 killer Whales working together to herd Salmon into a shallow cove, by slapping there tales on the surface water! It’s pays to have your good telephoto lenses WITH YOU “just in case” you happen to witness one of those “National Geographic moments!” :)
Dolphins frequently follow us as we skirt the shores! …and we can easily cover 30 miles a day in my Fiberglass (Seaward) Sea Touring Kayaks! We frequently photograph Bears on the beach!… as well as and Fox, Deer and Ermine during low tides! AND for you fishermen! We ALWAYS have at least 3 Salmon skip across the water and actually jump ONTO our spray skirts EVERY YEAR! :) Even got one on film! I am equipped with a Everio digital removable hard drive camcorder at all times! As well as digital cameras and dry bags for each and every passenger attached to the deck rigging in front of you! So bring your really GOOD camera and binoculars! :) I can generally get great pictures of YOU with Whales whenever we do see them!"
On calm wind days (15 mph or less) we can go virtually ANYWHERE we want, or as far as we want! I have a couple places where we have photographed over 200 Seals lounging on sandbars at low tide! Full Day Trips are reserved exclusively, on a first come first serve basis. Advance notification is suggested due to Kodiaks weather. Once I KNOW you are here on Kodiak, and how long you have till you leave... I can usually "arrange" a bright sunny calm kayaking day for you! I do not take people out if it is rough out. I am a wildlife photographer first and for most!
Dry bags attached to the deck rigging in front of each hatch for all passengers are easily accessible, to help protect your digital cameras and binoculars. I can take out a maximum of 12 passengers, but prefer scheduling smaller groups…or groups traveling together. I frequently take photographs of passengers WITH wildlife while we are out on the water, and if I DO get a really good shot of you with animals, I would have you sign a photo waiver in order to use them as advertisements for my business. All photos can be down loaded onto a disk for you at the end of each day using my lap top!
I place no time restraint on full day trips. If we are having fun… and the critters are thick (and weather permitting!)… we can stay out as long as you like! If I am taking out a family with kids, we frequently stop on the beach to look for octopi and other inter tidal organisms! … as well as beach comb! We will be paddling at YOUR pace! We can stop and take breaks to stretch your legs whenever you want, or need to! Occasionally I have hard-core athletes who want to see how many miles they can cover in a day, which is always entertaining... We can do that too, if you like! My kayaks can easily cover 20 miles in a day, even with beginner kayakers! You need not know HOW to kayak, (or Eskimo roll), to participate! My kayaks are very easily maneuverable even with one paddler, so even great grandma can tag along, and be the designated photographer (and get the chauffeured tour!)
Each destination has different sea mammals concentrated to different areas... Sea Otters, Porpoise, Whales, Puffins, Bald & Golden Eagles, Fox, Deer, Beaver, Musk Rat, Land Otter, Snowshoe Hair, Bears, Buffalo, Elk, Seals, Sea Lions, Oystercatchers. SO… No matter WHERE we go kayaking… you are likely to have up close wildlife viewing opportunities! You may even want to reserve two days, in order to ensure being able to explore different areas while you are here! Destinations are chosen based on the tides, wind direction/speed, and previous animal sightings from the day before! If we had Blue Whales yesterday! We WILL more than likely be able to photograph them again TODAY!
If you would like to spend the night out under the stars, kayak camping to a more remote destination. That too can be pre-arranged for $189 per person, per day. (2 person minimum.) ALL gear is provided for you. We also provide Guided Mountain Climbing excursions with your own naturalist guide to photograph Mt Goat, Fox, Deer, Beaver, Land Otter, Ptarmigan, Snowshoe Hare, Eagles, Brown Bear & Buffalo! :) We offer back country back packing/kayak camping expeditions, or you may choose to return each night to small cabin accommodations. (Each with a real honest to God full size "grandma" feather bed with down pillows & down comforter!) Advance notice and 100% pre payment is required to reserve extended overnight trips.
If you e-mail me, I will send you a list of gear provided and more information on our trips! Hope to here from you soon! For Close encounters with Kodiaks Wildlife!
